Meet JPrutzman Enterprises’ Intern Alexis “Lexi” Marchut
Tell us about your schooling.
I started my schooling with a Fine Arts Degree at Temple University in 2017 and had the goal of graduating in graphic design. As I took more classes, I discovered I liked the marketing side of my course work more than the graphic design side. I switched schools to Kutztown University and my major to marketing after my second year of college. I graduated from Kutztown in December 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Why did you want to pursue a degree in marketing/communications/public relations field?
I always knew I wanted to do something creative. I grew up having art as my favorite subject so it made sense to follow it through to college. When starting college I thought graphic design would be the major I could be most creative in. After I realized I wasn’t as passionate about graphic design as I thought I started taking marketing and business classes and found it was a better fit for me. I like the planning and creativity that comes with marketing. It is a great way for me to use my creativity.
Is this your first internship? If not, please tell us about other experiences.
This is my first internship. During my junior and senior year, I was faced with the challenge of COVID. Any internships I would have taken would have had to been virtual due to the pandemic and employers I spoke with were hesitant to bring on a new intern virtually.
Why did you want to intern at JPrutzman Enterprises?
I wanted to be an intern at JPrutzman Enterprises so I could gain real life experience from someone with a lot of knowledge. After graduating, I didn’t feel prepared to enter the workforce. Classes teach you what you need to know but I still felt like I needed real life experience. Interning at JPrutzman Enterprises will help prepare for the future of my career. I felt like this was the perfect environment to learn from someone who has a lot to teach.
What are your expectations of the internship?
My expectations are to gain experience so I feel confident in my skills. I expect to use what I learned in college in real time to help me get more hands on experience. I want to learn how to work with clients to give them what they want to make their businesses more successful.
Fun fact about yourself…
In my free time, I enjoy doing makeup. Whether I am doing it for others or myself, makeup is another way I use art to be creative.
